Senior night is always a special occasion for the senior leaders on every high school football squad.
It’s the night where they are honored for four years of hard work as they leave their mark on the football program they group up with and love.
Last Friday, October 18 Sigourney-Keota senior night for this years seniors - Brady Clark, Isaac Bruns, Caden Clarahan, Jace Chalupa, Brody Greiner, Jayden Thompson, Landyn Greiner, Cael O’Rourke, Kaen Kopp, Ashton Schwab, Milson Milam, Billie Kindred, Jonathan Wheeldon, Jax Weber and Zach Guffey was one for the books as the Cobras slithered to a dominant, 79-6 victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
“Senior night is always a big deal for our senior leaders,” said Sigourney-Keota head coach Jared Jensen. “They left nothing to chance and we’re ready to go. It was a great night.”
For the second week in a row, the Cobras scored on the very first play from scrimmage when Isaac Bruns got around the outside of the defense and out ran everyone for a 59 yard touchdown run.
This was the beginning of another stellar night for Bruns, who finished with 192 yards on seven carries (an astounding 27.4 yards per carry) with three touchdowns.
"When Isaac broke that run I immediately thought here we go again,” Jensen said. “We’ve come to expect big things from Isaac and once that block was sealed and he got outside no one was going to catch him.”
Isaac Bruns ran for 192 yards with three touchdowns Friday night.
On the Cobras next possession junior Brayden Wood connected with Brady Clark for a 64 yard touchdown pass.
Wood followed that up with a 45 yard touchdown pass to Caden Clarahan on Sigourney-Keota’s next possession.
This was Wood’s finest performance of the season as he completed two of three passes for 109 yards with two touchdowns. He also carried the ball three times for 64 yards and two scores.
Having this kind of performance was something Coach Jensen was excited to see as the Cobras head into the postseason.
“That game was another big game for Brayden’s confidence,” Jensen said. “He’s learned from his struggles and has just gotten better each week. A break out game like this will just give him even more confidence."
Brayden Wood outruns the EBF defenders.
After two more first quarter touchdowns by Bruns and a rushing touchdown by Wood, Brady Clark capped off the first quarter onslaught with a 76 yard interception return for a touchdown.
The 46 first quarter points for the Cobras was followed up with another 14 giving Sigourney-Keota a 60-6 lead by halftime.
With such a massive lead, the second string unit played the entire second half giving players with less experience a chance to be a part of the blowout.
The Cobra running game was in top form once again with ten players having the opportunity to carry the ball to the tune of 478 rushing yards.
Highlighting the rushing attack with Bruns and Wood were Brady Clark (2 carries, 81 yards, 1 TD), freshman Blake Baker (4 carries, 54 yards, 1 TD), and junior Aydin Flowers (2 carries, 50 yards, 1 TD).
Junior Jacob LIbe contributed to the Cobra passing game, completing an 80 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Ayden Galindo.
Defensively, the Cobras caused three turnovers with Brady Clark and junior Chase Haifley hauling in interceptions while Mison Milan recovered a fumble.

The victory wrapped a unanimous Iowa Class 1A District 6 Championship and marked the fifth consecutive unanimous District Championship for Coach Jensen and his Cobras.
“This has become an expectation for us,” Jensen said. “It’s always one of our main goals, winning a District Title. It comes from the time and effort put in by all the players and coaches and their commitment to continue the standard we’ve built here.”
Friday night, the Cobras welcome West Branch (2-6) to Sigourney for the opening round of the IHSAA playoffs.
“They are better than a two win team,” Jensen said. “They’ve had a tough schedule and played in a solid district. With some playmakers on their roster, we’ll have to make sure we bring our intensity and play like we know we can.”
